Fantastic news, our proposal to host some amazing pop-up events in Victoria Parks as part of the 2021 Victoria Participatory Budget has reached the voting phase. SIDGS has requested funds to purchase nine baskets, 50 discs, and facilitate the hosting of three pop-up events. Our funding request description as it appears on the City of Victoria website is as follows:

Would you like to try disc golf in one of Victoria’s beautiful City Parks? The South Island Disc Golf Society (SIDGS) is requesting funding to host a community oriented disc golf pop-up event at Topaz Park, Vic West Park, and Oaklands Park during 2022. Disc Golf is a family-friendly, multi-generational, affordable sport that promotes health and well being, community, connection with nature, and can be played in a safe and socially distanced manner. During these events SIDGS would offer discs for new players to use. The events would have experienced disc golfers, both men and women, teaching throwing and putting as well as pairing newer players with more experienced ones to promote community and learning. The events would have fun games for kids and prizes! Each pop-up course would utilize the incredible park spaces and include a 9 hole temporary basket course. The proposed courses would be designed for inclusive community use to allow folks of all ages and abilities to try disc golf, be active, and increase mental wellbeing. So please, vote for our proposal and come out for some family friendly fun, learn a new sport, and make some new friends!

Please head over to the link below, register and vote!! We really appreciate it. Lets grow the sport of disc golf with the City of Victoria!
